The Women’s Cell of St. John the Baptist Church, Lalarpura, joyfully organized Grandparents and Elderly Day on July 27, 2025 — a heartwarming event dedicated to honoring the wisdom, love, and contributions of the elderly and grandparents in our community.
The day began with a solemn Eucharistic celebration, where the liturgy was meaningfully conducted by the elderly and grandparents of the parish. The Holy Mass was presided over by Rev. Fr. Georgish Britto as the main celebrant, with Rev. Fr. Edward Oliveira as cocelebrant. Their homily highlighted the deep spiritual strength, guidance, and foundational role that elderly members play in families and society.
Following the Mass, a special cultural and interactive program unfolded. The “Friends of Jesus” group added a touching moment by presenting lovingly handmade cards to their grandparents and elderly participants, symbolizing affection and appreciation. This beautiful gesture served to strengthen intergenerational bonds within the parish
community.
One of the key highlights of the celebration was an interactive health session by Dr. John Davis on the topic “Exercises to Keep Our Elderly People Physically Fit.” Dr. Davis addressed common health concerns among the elderly, offering valuable tips on maintaining physical well-being through simple exercises, balanced nutrition, and active daily routines. His talk was not only informative but also empowering for the elderly and their caregivers.
Adding a personal dimension to the event, Miss Crystal Thomas from the Youth Ministry and Mr. V.A. Joseph shared moving reflections on their experiences with aging and health. Their candid narratives encouraged open and heartfelt conversations, promoting a culture of empathy, respect, and care for the elderly.
The event concluded with a delicious breakfast, graciously sponsored by the Women’s Cell of the parish. It was a joyful time of fellowship, laughter, and shared memories.
In essence, Grandparents and Elderly Day was more than just a celebration—it was a tribute to the legacy, faith, and strength of our elderly community members. The event beautifully embodied the Christian values of honor, compassion, and unity across generations .
